Artist statement

My work begins with a personal history shaped by the political history of Peru and Latin America. I am interested in how violence persists in everyday objects, childhood memories and the ways we inhabit a territory. I work with drawing, installation, photography, sound and video to explore these presences and give them a tangible form.

Toys, furniture, a radio or a song can be the starting point for an investigation. Through these objects and sounds, we build relationships, learn to recognise the world and remember those who shared it with us. In my work, this familiarity coexists with experiences of loss, displacement and power. Childhood occupies a central place: it was through play that I began to absorb a reality marked by conflict.

Travelling and listening are also part of my practice. The search for testimonies and encounters with musicians and communities connect my experience with other memories. I work from this closeness, attending to what people tell me, their gestures and silences, and the places they inhabit.

My work develops between research and lived experience. Some projects take shape over years; others remain open, like a diary that accompanies my life. I seek to create situations in which an image, an object or a sound can hold our attention and open a space to listen to what remains.
